The reading has simplified an overall summary of different aspects of film. There are so many different parts of the technicality and artistic direction of film, that it would be impossible to go through everything in one article so this sums up big ideas about film that would be most useful to somebody that didn’t know much about the subject before.
The reading has really helped me analyze several videos and pieces of film in a different way when I was choosing what video to write about. Once I was aware of what I was looking for, it was really easy to be able to pick that out from many videos. Overall, having a better understanding of techniques about a subject that I didn’t know much about before always helps me look back on things I’ve seen before with a new perspective.
I do buy film as a language because just like art, music, theater, etc., it is its own unique way of communicating and emoting. There are many intricate parts of each of these subjects that go unnoticed when being watched by the average person. Film is a language, but only when the argument for that also includes art and music because I feel like, in terms of their validity as languages, it applies equally to all of those categories of media.
